WINDSOR - McCauley Constructors Inc. has been selected to renovate the historic 1909 Union Pacific Railroad Roundhouse in Hugo.
McCauley Constructors was selected by Roundhouse Preservation Inc., Lincoln County Commissioners and the Colorado Department of Transportation to serve as general contractor for the $480,000 project.
The Roundhouse is one of only three remaining roundhouses from the original, pre-merger Union Pacific Railroad and is the only surviving brick roundhouse in the state. McCauley Constructors will perform a complete renovation of the facility with money received by Roundhouse Preservation in 2006.
A roundhouse was a circular building used by railroads to service locomotives that could only move forward.
