LONGMONT - Longmont-based DigitalGlobe is partnering with Huntsville, Ala-based Aegis Technologies Group to launch ImageScape, a rapid 3D imagery system.

The new technology will provide governments, enterprises and developers with the capability to create simulations of any location in the world, according to a DigitalGlobe press release.

ImageScape generates 3D virtual terrain models of the world's land mass by integrating satellite and aerial imagery and digital elevation models with a flexible, lightweight viewer that creates broadcast-quality images.

"Our partnership with Aegis and the launch of ImageScape is a testament to DigitalGlobe's commitment to developing sophisticated and innovative world imagery solutions and services," said Jill Smith, DigitalGlobe's president and CEO.

NBC and "The Today Show" were among the first customers to use ImageScape for television coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
