CSU leads research in weather modeling
FORT COLLINS - Colorado State University researchers have published
findings about weather modeling that could lead to major advances in
understanding and predicting climate and weather.
Results from a study conducted by researchers David Randall and
Charlotte DeMott were recently published in the American Geophysical
Union's Geophysical Research Letters. Their article, with Christiana
Stan of the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies as lead author,
was selected as an "AGU Journal Highlight."
"Christiana took the initiative to couple the atmosphere and ocean
models, and begin the coupled run," Randall said. "We were surprised
and intrigued to hear that she had taken such a bold step, and we were
surprised again, pleasantly, when we saw how good her results were."
In addition to CSU, researchers involved in the study came from the
State University of New York at Stony Brook, COLA and George Mason
University. The members are part of the $19 million Center for
Multiscale Modeling of Atmospheric Processes, which is based at CSU in
the Department of Atmospheric Science.
