Thirteen grant recipients - representing elementary, middle, high and one charter school from the Poudre School District - received more than $42,000 collectively from the Supporting Partnerships in Innovative Education grant program. Designed to encourage innovative and creative educational approaches, the SPIE grants will directly impact PSD students through classroom initiatives ranging from math, science and technology programs to collaborative programs for literacy and the arts.

The Human Bean presented $6,000 to Poudre Valley Hospital, $1,000 to the Hope Lives! Lydia Dody Breast Cancer Foundation, and $10,000 to North Colorado Medical Center to help provide low-income women with mammograms, diagnostic services and biopsies for women in need. The money was raised from the Oct. 21 Coffee for a Cure, in which 100 percent of sales were donated to help fight breast cancer.
