FORT COLLINS - A student housing project tabled since 2009 has made its way back to the front burners.

The project, called The District at Campus West, will be considered at a public hearing tonight at Fort Collins City Council Chambers at 300 LaPorte Ave.

If approved, the project would include a 193-unit development on 4.48 acres of land on the north side of West Plum Street between City Park Avenue and Aster Street. The development, as proposed, consists of five buildings that include housing, a clubhouse, parking and an interior courtyard.

Two dead-end streets, Columbine and Daisy, would be removed for the development of the project. The project's developer is Fort Collins Student Housing, a subsidiary of Residential Housing Development, a student-housing developer headquartered in Houston.

Residential Housing Development was formed in 2003 and has developed residential facilities as large as 924 bedrooms.

The project was initially proposed in 2008 but did not get off the ground because of the poor economic conditions.

Now, the project could help relieve some of the strain on the student-housing and multifamily markets in Fort Collins. For more on the housing shortage in these areas, click here. But some Fort Collins residents have concerns about the project's size and scale. Those concerns, among others, will be heard at the public meeting tonight.
