UNC professor receives $421,000 grant
David Hydock and UNC researchers will study the factors that lead to severe fatigue in cancer patients being treated with the drug doxorubicin. Researchers will also continue investigating the benefits of exercise in impaired hear and skeletal muscle function, which are common side effects of the treatment.
UNC professor Reid Hayward and two doctorate students, Eric Bredahl and Noah Gibson, will assist with the research, which is set to begin July 1.
The grant is an American Cancer Society Mentored Research Scholar Grant in Applied and Clinical Research. The grant provides support for mentored research and training the full-time junior faculty with the goal of beginning investigators to become independent researchers as clinical scientists or cancer researchers.
