The U.S. House of Representatives passed Thursday the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act, a package of seven bills that aims to reduce energy costs and spur economic growth and job creation.

The legislation is ready for Senate consideration after lawmakers approved the act by a 248-163 vote. The act includes bills sponsored by Colorado Republican Reps. Cory Gardner, Mike Coffman, Doug Lamborn, and Scott Tipton.

The legislation would establish certain fees for activities related to the development of oil and gas on federal lands, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. The bills also would direct the secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior to take actions aimed at facilitating onshore oil and gas leasing and production on federal lands.

In addition, the package would direct the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a plan to increase the amount of acreage leased for oil and gas development on federal lands if the department sells oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve, the budget office said. It also would establish an interagency committee to analyze the impact of certain rules and actions taken by the Environmental Protection Agency on gasoline, diesel fuel and natural-gas prices.
