The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Friday announced it will speed federal disaster assistance to Colorado as a result of the High Park and Waldo Canyon fires.

Homeowners and low-income renters will be able to access assistance from the federal government as a result of the declaration of the fires as a national disaster.

HUD is offering a variety of resources to displaced families, including a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures on FHA-insured mortgages, mortgage insurance, insurance for mortgages and home rehabilitation.

In addition, HUD is allowing Colorado to reallocate existing federal resources such as the Community Development Block Grant toward disaster relief.
