A few weeks ago I learned that a family friend was laid off. I quickly sent off a note to let the person know I was thinking of them. I offered to be of assistance and I also sent a few networking contacts. One contact happened to be the CEO of a company in this person’s specific industry. She was eager to speak to my friend.

Three weeks have gone by and I have not heard one word from my friend. No response to my emails. No note of thanks for the support or networking leads. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Regardless of the stress one is under, it is imperative to remain communicative and appreciative of the help that people provide. 

Anything less is an indication that you are either not emotionally ready to engage in a job search or you have the emotional intelligence of a flea. 

Last I heard, no one is hiring flea brains these days.
