The Aurora City Council was scheduled to vote Monday whether to lease $9.5 million in water to Anadarko for use in Northern Colorado's Wattenberg Field, the Denver Post reported.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. would pay the city to lease 1,500 acre-feet of water annually for five years.

The company would use the water for drilling and hydraulic fracturing, with 30,000 barrels of water for its daily Wattenberg operations, said Anadarko public-affairs director John Christiansen.

The company would use only treated wastewater, paying $1,200 per acre-foot, about four times as much as Aurora Water would normally charge.
