Insurance damage estimates from the High Park Fire and the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs have reached nearly $450 million, making 2012 the most expensive wildfire season in Colorado history.

The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association said Tuesday that based on nearly 850 claims filed so far in relation to the High Park Fire, the insured damage costs are estimated at $97.1 million.

Insurance costs associated with losses from the Waldo Canyon Fire are estimated at $352.6 million based on approximately 4,300 claims filed so far.

Estimates do not include commercial loss.

The Fourmile Canyon Fire was previously the state's most costly wildfire with an estimated $224 million in insured damage when adjusted for inflation.

Residents with homeowners insurance may still file claims, and the Insurance Information Association encourages homeowners that have experienced property loss to take steps to find a reputable contractor.
