FORT COLLINS - CSU in its fiscal 2011-12 raised a record $111.6 million in private dollars, a 31-percent increase over the previous year, the university said Thursday.

Donations came from a record number of donors, just under 32,000, an increase of 14 percent over the previous fiscal year. CSU's fiscal year ends June 30.

The university's announcement marks the official close of the Campaign for Colorado State University, which has raised $537.3 million, primarily for scholarships and academic programs.

The campaign began in 2005 with the goal of reaching $500 million in donations. It reached this goal six months early.

"Through the campaign, supporters of CSU have sent a strong message: Higher education at Colorado State University is critical to our future, and we are committed to excelling as a world-class research facility," said Tony Frank, president of CSU.
