Many people have turned to renting instead of purchasing a home for various reasons. Rents have been driven up by declining vacancy rates as more and more people turn to renting instead of purchasing a home.

Does that mean that we as a community are going to dismiss those neighbors as undesirable?

Not every renter is a bad neighbor; however their housing choice has put them in the bull's-eye of a community issue that seems to enrage some and relieve others.

There is already an established and ongoing process to address student housing issues in Fort Collins, yet instead of following through with the city's Student Housing Action Plan, some residents want to see the city impose a moratorium on all Multi-Family Housing until they are satisfied.

Two-thousand, seven-hundred and forty-one multi-family units are on the books right now with an estimated economic impact of over a quarter-of-a-billion dollars.

Future property taxes, sales taxes, and other fees will make a significant and perpetual impact upon the city coffers. To even discuss stopping that economic engine, even temporarily, is ludicrous. Fortunately, the City Council and staff have chosen not to go that route, for now.
