Colorado State University Provost Rick Miranda named Steve Abt, emeritus professor of civil and environmental engineering, as interim dean of the College of Engineering effective Aug. 1. Abt replaced Sandy Woods, who resigned to take a position at Oregon State University. Abt last served as interim dean of the college in 2004. He came out of retirement in July 2011 to serve as a temporary senior facilities advisor and has more than 39 years of general engineering experience.
United Way of Larimer County announced a new executive committee and new members to its board of directors for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Effective in July, Nick Christensen of Larimer County Sheriff's Office is board chair; Karen Siwek of Brown & Brown Insurance is board treasurer; and Brent Coan of Otis, Coan & Peters LLC is board secretary. In addition, Mike Hooker of Colorado State University and Kay Garcia of First National Bank have joined the board.
The Women's Resource Center named Dr. Guadalupe Salazar as president of the board of directors. Salazar is the current director of El Centro at Colorado State University. She was one of two recipients to be honored with the 2012 Women of Vision Award presented by The Colorado Women of Influence.
Brinkman Partners of Fort Collins announced the addition of 12 new team members in the past five months. These include: Ben Bradley as superintendent, Joe Bradley as superintendent, Eric Boehner as project engineer, Zach Chambers as assistant superintendent, Derek Cohen as project manager, Brandon Dooley as superintendent, Jacob Guthrie as property manager, Tina Hippeli as development services project coordinator, Jim Mattern as superintendent, Doug Maybon as superintendent, Rahn Richards as project engineer and Gail Wilcox in accounting.
JVA Inc., a structural and civil engineering company with offices in Fort Collins, Winter Park and Boulder, announced that Chris Green has joined the firm. He will be employed as a design engineer in JVA's structural department at its Boulder office. A native of Wyoming, Green is a graduate of University of Wyoming's architectural engineering program.
The CardioVascular Institute of North Colorado announced the addition of Dr. Shane B. Rowan as an electrophysiologist. Rowan comes to Colorado from the Heart and Vascular Institute at the MetroHealth System in Cleveland. He completed a clinical cardiology and electrophysiology fellowship at the Vanderbilt University Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Dr. Ed Hoover, a CSU veterinarian who led the development of a vaccine to prevent feline leukemia virus infection, received the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges' 2012 Merial-AAVMC Excellence in Research award in August. For more than 30 years, Hoover has been an innovator in pathology and the study of infectious diseases such as feline leukemia and chronic wasting disease. The university has honored his career with the title of University Distinguished Professor. Research in the Hoover laboratory has led to the development of the first successful and most widely used FeLV vaccine, now used to immunize cats against leukemia-causing virus.
Pediatric Associates of Northern Colorado announced Dr. Melissa Grunloh has joined its team of doctors at the all-pediatric clinic in Fort Collins. Grunloh comes to PANC from the University Of Colorado Denver School Of Medicine, where she completed her pediatric training.
Rehabilitation and Visiting Nurse Association of Northern Colorado recently appointed Erica Oliver, RN to the position of patient care coordinator for Weld County. Oliver returned to Colorado in June from Texas where she has been involved in a variety of long-term care and hospice services.
Colorado Health Medical Group announced the addition of general and trauma surgeon Dr. Kaitlin Heisel to Surgical Specialists of the Rockies. Heisel received her bachelor's degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder, her medical degree at Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
The Heart Center of the Rockies announced the addition of Dr. Russell Heath, expanding its coverage in cardiac electrophysiology services. Heath received his medical degree at the University of Texas and completed his residency and fellowship in electrophysiology and general cardiology at the University of Colorado.
Miramont Lifestyle Fitness announced the addition of Jenn Hadel and Christina Payne to its children's programs. Hadel joined Miramont in June as the new director of the preschool program. She has 17 years of experience in early childhood education and will focus on "whole language learning" in the program. Payne joined the company in July as the youth program manager. Her charge is to expand the current youth programs and develop new ones that help children increase their flexibility, coordination, body awareness, endurance and self-esteem.
Soukup, Bush and Associates, CPAs, P.C. added two partners: Mika Schneider and Dan Soukup. Schneider graduated Magna Cum Lade from Angelo State University in Texas with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Soukup graduated with honors from Belmont University in 2004 with a degree in business administration and an emphasis in accounting, and went on to receive his master's in accounting. He has five years of international CPA firm experience.
Holiday Retirement announced Alan Heileman as its new community sales leader for the Parkwood Estates Retirement community in Fort Collins. Heileman has worked in the senior care industry in various capacities for more than 10 years, and is an active member and former president of the Elder Care Network of Northern Colorado.
The Poudre Valley Fire Authority announced four promotions and a new hire. Promoted from driver/operator to rank of captain were Michal Jaques, Shawn McGaffin and Andy Russell. Captains are in charge of an engine or ladder truck company, or program managers. They are responsible for directing the emergency and non-emergency operations of one or more companies depending on the situation. Promoted to lieutenant was Fire Station 11 (Redstone Canyon) volunteer Pete Taylor. Taylor has served the Redstone community for 11 years. Ann Turnquist was hired as the new administrative services director. Most recently she served as a policy and project manager with the Fort Collins City Manager's Office.
Burns Marketing Communications has announced the addition of Matt Fiore to assist with interactive project management and account executive duties, and SuzAnn Brown as the newest member of the business development team, covering the Denver/Boulder area. As an interactive project manager, Fiore will serve as a link between the creative and interactive departments to ensure projects include strategic, creative, interactive and usability functions. As a business development director, Brown has more than 14 years of experience as a marketing professional including owning her own agency in Boulder for eight years.
Townsquare Media LLC announced the additions of George King and Zandi Wilcox to its Fort Collins/Loveland/Greeley cluster. King has joined as operations manager. He will be responsible for programming in the market, as well as serve as brand manager for K99 (KUAD-FM) and as the company's regional brand manager for the country format. Wilcox is the new director of sales. She will be responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the market radio, digital and event sales department.
The Weld Food Bank board of directors recently held elections for its fiscal year 2012-2013, and elected the following individuals to leadership positions: Tim Croissant, president of New West Bank, president; Brian Franzen, independent distributor for Organo Gold, vice president; Judy Richter, retired nursing professor for University of Northern Colorado, secretary; and Chalice Springfield, CEO of Sears Real Estate, treasurer.
The board of directors of Northern Colorado's Project Self-Sufficiency has elected new officers for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Stacy Plemmons, DU College of Business, will assume the presidency; Diane Knight, management coach and consultant, is the new vice president/president-elect; Jane Ray, retired teacher and community volunteer, continues in the role of secretary; David Besch, vice president of Home State Bank, is the new fiscal officer, and Tom Tonoli, retired teacher and curriculum director for Poudre School District, is the past president.
Chrisland Commercial Real Estate announced the addition of Kathy Rogers to the company as a licensed assistant. Her primary responsibilities will be to assist Ryan Schaefer and Jake Hallauer servicing Chrisland's clients and organizing day-to-day operations of the company. She has more than 20 years of administrative experience.
