Two men install metal discs that will eventually make up the “wind wall,” part of the “Science Zone” in the museum.
The move-in process began this past week on one of the first exhibits at the new Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. The wall is a kinetic sculpture that demonstrates wind patterns when fans are blown on the metal discs. Dozens of exhibits were moved into the museum in recent days to fill out not only the Science Zone, but also the Music and Natural Areas Zones. This was the first round of exhibits to arrive at the museum, and another is expected Aug. 20. Two more shipments are expected before the museum opens its doors Nov. 10. At that time, two of the three major phases of the museum will be complete. The third phase includes the construction of a digital dome, which is now under way, according to Annette Geiselman, co-executive director of the museum. Fundraising is nearing completion, with just $1.8 million left to go before a $26.7 million goal.
