Anadarko plans large facility in Platteville
The facility will feature a field office, warehouse and yard at 501 N. Division Blvd., an Anadarko spokeswoman said in an e-mail. The company hopes to begin construction on the project, known as the Platteville Energy Park, the week of Aug. 20.
It will be completed by late summer next year, the spokeswoman said.
"We are excited about our upcoming expansion and continued growth in Northern Colorado," she said.
Anadarko is among the largest oil and gas producers in Weld County. It employs 950 people in Colorado. Anadarko has outgrown its facility Brighton and wanted a more central location within the area where it operates.
Construction of the new facility would follow a move by another major Weld producer, Noble Energy Inc., from Platteville to Greeley.
The Anadarko facility is "good news for Platteville," said Terry Wiedeman of Kreps Wiedeman in Greeley.
Wiedeman helped acquire the foreclosed property, where a developer had once planned a subdivision, and arranged the lease. He expects the lease to run at least 15 years.
"They're there for the long haul," he said.
The town of Platteville has approved plans for the project, said Nick Francis, a partner with Dale Boehner in Platteville Energy Partners 1, the developer in the project.
Platteville Energy sold the land for the project to Anadarko and persuaded the town to rezone the acreage from residential to commercial and industrial. Anadarko also has the right to expand on adjacent property in the future.
"We've been working on this for over a year," Francis said. "We finally got it through."
He declined to disclose terms of the deal. Other energy companies have expressed interest in other spots in the park though none have made commitments, he said.
Landmark Builders of Evans will construct the Anadarko facility.
