FORT COLLINS - CSU President Tony Frank gave his OK to a new, on-campus stadium on Monday, so long as $125 million in private donations can be raised, about half of the projected cost of the facility.

In a letter posted to the stadium project website, Frank said that at the upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors this week, he will recommend that CSU "embark on fund-raising efforts for a new stadium located on our main campus."
But he also said he would not "bring forth a proposal for financing to the Board for approval unless and until we have arrived at a scenario that meets ... (fundraising) guidelines."

Frank's recommendation will require that half of the stadium's total $246 million price tag be obtained through philanthropic gifts.

He gave the effort to line up financing two years to succeed.

"Before I would take any financing package to the Board of Governors for their consideration, I'd have to be extremely confident that the combination of philanthropy and financing against committed stadium revenues would cover the cost of the stadium," Frank said.

"At this point, the clearest path that I can envision is $125 million of philanthropic funds
