Report: Colorado among leaders in wind energy construction
Colorado ranks sixth behind Texas, California, Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa in wind construction projects under way, according to a report from the American Wind Energy Association.
The U.S. wind industry installed more than 1,800 megawatts of wind projects in 15 states during the third quarter, the report says. Colorado ranked among the top 10 states for wind power capacity installations through 2011.
U.S. Sen. Mark Udall highlighted the report in a statement Friday calling on Congress to extend the wind Production Tax Credit before it expires at the end of the year.
"The wind Production Tax Credit supports a critical component of our all-of-the-above energy strategy, in Colorado and across the United States," Udall said in the statement.
"This report underlines that we have the wind at our backs building a clean energy future," he added. "Now is not the time to throw this progress into the breeze. Congress needs to extend the PTC ASAP to strengthen American manufacturing and create jobs."
