I must begin with the following disclaimer: I do not have a Twitter account. I feel some sort of strange guilt or shame in making this admission. But, that is a topic for another day. The point I want to make is that social media is powerful and our public postings should be made with great care.

As a recruiter, I have hopped online and read candidates' blogs prior to interviews and making offers. How quickly we can land ourselves in the NO PILE! It is amazing what people put out there for the whole world to see.
Recently, I read the story of an Aurora high school teacher who tweeted about drug use and posted semi-nude photos of herself. She is on paid leave. That too, is a topic for another day. How long does it take to say, "You're fired?"

We are much more than our public profiles. At the same time, we are nothing more than the personal brands we create.

Be careful out there on the World Wide Web. Everything you tweet and post can and will be used against you.
