Activists seek Mead oil drilling moratorium
The online petition is calling for no new wells to be permitted or drilled during the moratorium so that the town and its residents could "get better informed on well locations, numbers etc."
The cities of Loveland and Fort Collins passed similar moratoriums, though the latter recently banned hydraulic fracturing. In Loveland, the City Council was scheduled to decide Tuesday whether to pass its proposed oil and gas regulations.
Mead Movement organizers say they have scheduled a meeting with Mead's town manager Tuesday to discuss a moratorium.
The group described itself as a "community-driven group of concerned residents living in Mead."
"Our concern is directed at the oil and gas drilling that is ongoing surrounding our small town," the group says on its website. "The potential health, environmental, and future house price decrease due to the drilling have motivated us to gather as a group to determine our best line of action."
