Three Northern Colorado nursing home facilities were included in a U.S. News and World Report nationwide ranking: Prospect Park Living Center, Lemay Ave. Health and Rehabilitation, and McKee Medical Center Nursing Home-TCU.
U.S. News uses data collected and complied by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in its ranking of more than 15,000 nursing homes. CMS maintains its database on all nursing care facilities that accept Medicare and/or Medicaid. The three measures -- health inspection, nursing staff and quality indicators for individual care -- are ranked from one to five stars, along with an overall score.
Estes Park's Prospect Park Living Center received the highest marks among the region's facilities included in the report. The 60-bed facility received a five-star overall ranking; four-star health inspection; five stars for nurse staffing and four stars for the quality measures.
Lemay Ave. Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Collins received five stars for its overall and health inspection scores. It garnered four stars for nurse staffing and two stars for quality of individual care. McKee Medical Center Nursing Home-TCU also received five stars for its overall and health inspection elements, but the nurse staffing and quality measures were not ranked.
In all, 27 Colorado facilities were included in the ranking. All of them received overall rankings of five stars, but none obtained "honor roll" status. Only 34 facilities received that designation, which requires a five-star status on health inspections, nurse staffing and quality measures of individual care.
